Interior design in Abu Dhabi — served from the Dubai office

Montaigne Design does not have an Abu Dhabi office. Our Abu Dhabi commissions are served from the Dubai office, an hour and a quarter up the road. The capital's pace is its own — slower, more institutional, more attentive to permanence. Our Abu Dhabi work covers private villas in Saadiyat and Al Raha, branded residences on Al Reem, and hospitality work supporting the emirate's cultural pipeline.

Local context

Abu Dhabi — the brief

Abu Dhabi commissions tend to be longer, quieter, and more institutional than their Dubai counterparts. The families who build in the capital expect permanence — and the interiors that serve them must hold that promise. Our practice is shaped to this rhythm.

The emirate's cultural pipeline — the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum — creates a context in which institutional-grade interior design is understood and valued. We bring the same discipline to private commissions in Saadiyat and Al Raha that the cultural institutions bring to the waterfront.

Among the interior design companies in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi's interior design market is younger than Dubai's, and its commissioning rhythm is different — slower, more institutional, more attentive to permanence. Among the interior design companies operating in Abu Dhabi, most are based in Dubai. Montaigne Design is one of them: we serve Abu Dhabi commissions from our Dubai office, an hour and a quarter up the road. The work we do here covers private villas in Saadiyat, Al Raha and Hudayriyat, branded residences on Al Reem, and hospitality interiors supporting the emirate's cultural pipeline.

What clients searching for interior design firms in Abu Dhabi are usually looking for is not a local address but a senior designer who will commit to the capital with the same on-site presence as a Dubai commission. That is the proposition. The interior designer your project meets in the first conversation is the one who reads it through to handover.

Saadiyat Island — villas and cultural commissions

Saadiyat is the emirate's cultural district — the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Guggenheim under construction, the Zayed National Museum — and the residential brief here carries that seriousness. Villa interior design in Abu Dhabi reaches its highest register on Saadiyat: beach-district villas and branded residences built for families who are neighbours to institutions and expect their homes to read with a comparable intent.

A Saadiyat villa is not designed for resale in five years. It is designed for the family to live in for twenty. The materials must hold against coastal exposure — stone specified for thermal cycling, ironwork in marine-grade finishes, timber chosen for dimensional stability in the humidity. The proportions must reward familiarity rather than novelty, and the lighting must age as gracefully as the stone. This is the discipline the studio's hospitality background was built on, brought to a domestic scale.

Al Reem Island, Yas Island and Al Raha Beach

Al Reem Island is the capital's high-rise residential district, and Al Reem Island apartment design is a discipline of tight, tall footprints — penthouses and family apartments where storage, light and the transition between rooms have to be resolved in joinery rather than in floor area. We treat the apartment as a single considered room, not a smaller version of a villa.

Yas Island carries a different brief — leisure-adjacent residences and branded homes near the destination's hospitality and entertainment anchors, where the interior is expected to feel resort-grade. Al Raha Beach sits between the two: waterfront family villas and apartments with a calmer, more permanent register. Each community asks a different question of the design, and the studio answers all three from the same Dubai office.

Hospitality and cultural interiors for the emirate's pipeline

Hospitality interior design in Abu Dhabi is a natural extension of the studio's core discipline. More than forty delivered hotel projects sit behind the practice — InterContinental, Capella, Hyatt, Hotel Indigo, Kempinski and others — and that portfolio maps directly onto the emirate's pipeline: the hotels, resorts and cultural-adjacent hospitality that the Saadiyat Cultural District and the wider tourism strategy continue to generate.

Cultural and institutional interiors require scale, programme management, and material specification held across a long commissioning cycle without losing the thread. These are the qualities hotel work teaches, and they are the qualities a serious Abu Dhabi commission demands.

How we work with Abu Dhabi commissions from Dubai

We are transparent about the model. We do not keep an Abu Dhabi studio, and we do not pretend to. We serve the capital from our Dubai office at Maritime Business Centre, a drive of roughly seventy-five minutes. For an active Abu Dhabi project we commit to weekly site visits, appoint a local agent to handle permits and authority liaison, and the senior designer holds the same on-site presence they would on a Dubai commission. Travel is not passed to the client as a line item.

The result is a Dubai practice that comes to Abu Dhabi with hospitality-grade discipline, residential warmth, and a Shanghai craft network behind it — without the overhead of a second office quietly added to the fee. Every commission begins with a private conversation, at our Dubai office or on your site in the capital, and it costs nothing.
